Human beings are creatures of habit. I know this for a certainty because of the way I think and I am. I like things to be the same. Same ol four o’clock alarm. Same ol brand of coffee in the morning. Same ol time leaving the house and getting back home. Same ol reruns on TV & so forth and so on. It makes me feel comfortable to be in a healthy, established routine day in and day out.
All in the same, what is uncomfortable to me is changes in the world that happen so fast that no one can get comfortable with the change before it’s changed three more times. I imagine that a lot of you feel the same. If you do, you understand that human beings are their best in a groove.
I say that quick world changes makes me uncomfortable. Well, that’s not altogether true. It actually gives me a fair amount of anxiety and fear. I would take a chance and say with a great amount of certainty that a lot of you get these rushes of anxiety and fear over how fast the world is changing these days as well. One day Vladimir Putin is talking about leaving the war in Ukraine and the very next day, he is ready to nuclear bomb the world.
It really doesn’t matter what Putin thinks or does. It doesn’t matter how much the world changes or how much anxiety I get from it. The only thing that matters, and has mattered for 2000 years, is that we know Christ. We can worry till there’s not a hair in our head but what does that change? I’ll tell you what! A big ole heap of nothin. We must come to understand that God is in control. Until we do that, our anxiety will be. So, let’s give ourselves back to God and He will be sure to relax us with His peace.
“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me you might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.“
John 16:33
